The development plan for the Bushehr Petrochemical Complex is one of the largest industrial projects implemented after the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. This important project, as a cornerstone of the overall policy for the development and expansion of mother industries, downstream industries, and in line with the economic and social objectives of the first five-year plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been completed and put into operation. After initial evaluations, the project was approved by the Economic Supreme Council in 1984. The engineering design of the complex's first and most important unit, the Olefin Unit, began in 1985, and subsequently, contracts for the engineering design and procurement of machinery for other units were signed. The construction and installation of industrial structures began in 1989. In early 1988, Bushehr Petrochemical Company was established with the participation of the National Petrochemical Company with a 51% share and Bank Melli Iran with a 49% share. The project was implemented and fully operational according to the policies of this company. Due to the technical and economic policies, the Bushehr Petrochemical Complex has passed through various stages and phases during its execution and has finally been completed and put into final operation in two distinct and identifiable phases. The first phase of operation of the auxiliary services and general facilities began in 1992, and the process units, including the Olefin Unit and downstream production units, were put into operation in 1993 and subsequent years. The second and third phases completed the units in areas 2 and 3, including the units in the polymer and chemical production chain.
